SERVICE STATEMENT

I contribute a high level of service to both the Painting & Drawing area and the larger Art & Design Department. I am deeply committed to helping provide stability within the department through collaborative service, and I find areas where I can help things to function smoothly by maintaining open dialogue among students, faculty, academic staff and administrative staff. I strive to continually provide advocacy and mentorship in my personal service, supporting students through special projects and exhibitions that align with my teaching philosophies and my research. I prioritize mentorship and allyship for under-represented student populations.

My service priorities include expanding access to resources for students and creating opportunities for community and connection among alumni, current students, and community members. I develop extracurricular programming that helps to bridge across multiple areas of campus and extends into the broader community. UWM Departmental & University Service

As Co-Chair of Art & Design, regular responsibilities have included coordination of departmental events, co-managing department personnel and student concerns, providing schedule and enrollment management, maintaining a range of the department’s essential functions, representing the department in administrative meetings and to the public, and developing proposals, assessments and internal reviews. During 2024-2025 as Co-Chair, I co-authored the Art & Design FY24-25 Budget Narrative, the AY24-25 Art & Design Program Assessments, and the AY24-25 Art & Design Program Array Review Report. I was the lead faculty in authoring the NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art & Design) Accreditation Self-Study, compiling NASAD Management Portfolio Documents, organizing extensive necessary departmental digital archives and co-organized the site visit in Spring 2025. I have additionally been a member of the Chairs Advisory Committee since Fall 2020, and within the Peck School of Arts, I serve on the PSOA Admin Council, and the College of Arts & Architecture Admin Council. I also attended the university-wide Department Chairs & Associate Deans Sessions throughout Spring 2024-Spring 2025.

As Area Head of Painting and Drawing, I supervise and evaluate four academic staff members and all figure models, and I manage ten classroom spaces with varying facility, safety and ventilation needs. I schedule the Painting & Drawing staff each semester, develop course proposals and revisions, manage studio budgets both for student course fees and designated area budgets, and I facilitate tours, manage and organize advising events, scholarship jurying, student work displays, special projects and BA/BFA, MA/MFA and P&D Area exhibitions for Painting & Drawing students, and coordinate, host and facilitate interactions between students visiting artists. I have sought support for my area through several successful Differential Tuition Grants.

Painting & Drawing Area Head Ongoing Duties:

Oversee Painting & Drawing Program Curriculum, Research and Development, and facilitate communication between Chair, First Year Program faculty, staff, and others involved in administering Painting & Drawing Program
Schedule and Staff Painting & Drawing Courses in consultation with administration to ensure appropriate assignments of faculty, staff and TA's teaching in the Painting & Drawing Program
Develop Proposals for Painting & Drawing courses, programs, and pedagogical initiatives (traditional and online), and revisions to existing courses, with input from areas and Curriculum Committee
Supervise and Evaluate Faculty and Staff teaching in the Painting & Drawing Program according to the Department's academic staff evaluation procedures, working with departmental Chairs
Organize And Assist with the Interview and Hiring Process of new Painting & Drawing instructors
Train and Supervise Area faculty, instructors, Graduate Assistants, and Student workers; Conduct weekly Area meetings and facilitate regular Area business; Act as first step in grievances toward an instructor or student before Chair, Associate Dean or Dean of Student involvement
Manage Studio Budgets: 101-budget string, 128-budget string; purchase all course-related supplies and student consumable supplies for the Painting & Drawing program; Create Differential Tuition proposals and estimates with students in the Painting & Drawing Area

I am proud of my work with the Rathsack and Rorabeck Awards for Painting & Drawing, and I have provided a vital connection for students by establishing a Queer Curatorial fund for the Art & Design Department at UWM, which serves to bring diverse voices of visiting artists to the departmental programs.
